Kangana Ranaut has taken offence to a Sonu Sood tweet where the actor seemed to defend a vendor spitting in food. Sood later clarified his stand
Actress and politician Kangana Ranaut has slammed actor Sonu Sood for defending a food vendor who spat on a customer's food. Sonu has been criticised for comparing the food vendor to the Shabri episode from the Indian epic Ramayana. On X (formerly Twitter), Kangana reacted to a news tweet that reported about Sonu's 'justifying' food vendor's act, and making a connection with Ramayana's Shabri.
Kangana retweeted a news article with her quote. The article tweet reads, "SHOCKING NEWS Bollywood actor Sonu Sood justifies spitting in people’s food. He equates spitting on food by a miscreant with Lord Ram eating Shabri’s berries. He said ‘if Lord Ram could eat Shabri’s berries, why can’t he eat rotis that have been spat upon?’ He defended the act of spitting by describing it as an act of ‘Humanity’. He said ‘Humanity must remain intact (sic)."
Kangana called out Sonu and wrote, "Next you know Sonu ji will direct his own Ramayana based on his own personal findings about God and religion. Wah kya baat hai Bollywood se ek aur Ramayana (sic)."

It all started when an internet user posted a clip of a boy spitting on dough while making chapatis. A netizen reacted to the video, and wrote, "The roti smeared with spit should be "parcelled" to "Sonu Sood" so that brotherhood remains intact." Sonu also reacted to the video, and wrote, "Our Shri Ram Ji ate the sour berries of Shabri, so why can't I eat them? Violence can be defeated by non-violence, my brother. Humanity must just remain intact. Jai Shri Ram."

After facing severe backlash on his tweet, Sonu issued a clarification in another tweet. He wrote, ""I have never justified those who spit in food. It is their character which will never change. They should be given severe punishment for this. But let humanity remain humanity, friend. The time we spend in explaining to each other, we should spend that much time on the needy people! By the way, let me tell you all, I am the biggest fan of the work of the UP government. Every house in UP, Bihar is my family. Remember, no matter what state, city, or religion, if you need anything, let me know. The number is the same."

Earlier, Kangana Ranaut questioned actor Sonu Sood's stand on the Uttar Pradesh government's directive for food shops on the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners' names. After Sonu Sood's post stating that only "humanity" should be displayed on shop nameplates, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut questioned the actors stand on Friday.
The debate stems from the Uttar Pradesh government order mandating the display of owners' names on shops and eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route. Sonu Sood took to X to express his views on the matter, stating, "There should be only one nameplate on every shop: "HUMANITY"
This statement received backlash from several social media users tagging it as a critique of the government's directive. Reacting to Sonu Sood's stance, Kangana Ranaut said, "Agree, Halal should be replaced with "HUMANITY."
Earlier, screenwriter Javed Akhtar also reacted to the ongoing controversy over the incident and strongly criticised the administration.
"Muzaffarnagar UP police has given instructions that on the route of a particular religious procession in near future all the shops restaurants n even vehicles should show the name of the owner prominently and clearly. Why? In Nazi Germany they used to make only a mark on particular shops and houses," Javed Akhtar posted on X.
On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated that food and beverage shops along Kanwar routes should display the name and identity of the operator/owner to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrims' faith.
Additionally, action will be taken against those selling halal-certified products. The move by the Uttar Pradesh government to enforce the use of ID Cards by all shops in the state that fall along the Kanwar Yatra route has resulted in a political slugfest between the BJP and the opposition.
