Iran Attacks On US Base: Tehran launches missiles at Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, Doha condemns strike

Iran launched missiles at the United States' military base in Doha on Monday, shortly after Qatar temporarily closed its airspace. The attack was in retaliation to the US bombing of several key nuclear sites in Iran at the weekend. Purported videos from Qatar showed missiles being intercepted in skies over capital Doha.

Iran military confirms attack
The Iranian military has issued a statement, confirming the strikes. "Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with the sacred code or Aba Abdullah Al-Hussein (PBUH) has targeted the Al-Udeid base in Qatar with a devastating and powerful missile attack in Operation Besharat Fatah. This base is the headquarters of the Air Force and the largest strategic asset of the US terrorist army in the West Asian region," the Iranian Armed Forces said.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council said the number of missiles used in the operation was equal to the number of bombs that the US dropped in its assault on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Qatar issues statement
Qatar has strongly denounced the Iranian attack in Doha. In a statement, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said, "The IRGC’s (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) strike on Al Udeid is a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, its airspace, and the UN Charter.” Authorities in Qatar said that no casualties were reported, adding the country reserves the right to respond to the attack.

Indian embassy's advisory
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Qatar has issued an advisory, urging Indian nationals there to be cautious and remain indoors. "Please remain calm and follow local news, instructions and guidance provided by Qatari authorities. The Embassy will also keep updating through our social media channels," the Indian Embassy in Doha said in a statement posted on X.
Several flights from India to Qatar have also been cancelled.

US entry into Iran-Israel conflict
Al Udeid is the largest US military base in the Middle East, where the country overall has several key military installations and tens of thousands of troops stationed. Other nations in the region where the US has military presence include Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The US attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran, located in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, in an overnight operation at the weekend. This marked the US' direct involvement in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, which erupted after the Jewish-majority nation launched a surprise attack on the Islamic Republic on June 13.
