In today's fast-paced world, job-hopping has become increasingly common, with professionals frequently changing jobs in pursuit of better salaries and career growth. However, imagine someone who has stayed with the same company not just for years but for several decades.

Walter Orthmann, a Brazilian centenarian, holds the Guinness World Record for the longest career at a single company. As confirmed by Guinness World Records on January 6, 2022, Walter had been employed at the same company for an incredible 84 years and 9 days.

Born in 1922, Walter was just 15 years old when he started working as a shipping assistant at a textile company in Santa Catarina, Brazil called Industrias Renaux S.A. (now known as ReneauxView). His first day at work was marked on 17 January 1938.

Whether it’s raining or intense heat, Walter's sheer determination pushed him to walk barefoot to school to study and then practice at home.  As a student, he was known for his exceptional academic performance. His extraordinary memory and meticulous attention to detail were truly noteworthy. 

Faced with financial difficulties at home, Walter Orthmann had to start working to help support his family. Accompanied by his mother, he visited a local textile factory in search of a job. Thanks to his exceptional fluency in German, he was hired on the spot, marking the beginning of his long-standing career at ReneauxView.

Walter started as a shipping assistant and quickly distinguished himself with his exceptional skills and eagerness to learn. His unwavering dedication and ability to consistently exceed expectations propelled him climbing the ladder of success quickly.  

He was later promoted to a position in sales. Then, he held the position of a successful Sales Manager.  

Over his remarkable 84-year career, Walter Orthmann witnessed countless changes and transformations within the company, the country, and the world at large. As time went on, the "world’s most loyal employee" recognized that staying up-to-date and quickly adapting to evolving circumstances is essential for achieving success in business.

On 19 April 2022, Walter celebrated his 100th birthday.  He celebrated his centenary in the company with his coworkers, friends, and family. 

Interestingly, Walter broke his own record set in 2019 with 81 years and 85 days.  

Walter, who was also known as the "oldest employee in the world," passed away in Brazil at the age of 102.
