A Chinese man’s dream wedding turned into a nightmare when he discovered that he had been scammed after spending Rs 55 lakh on his to-be bride. What began as an exciting romance quickly became a shocking story of deception.
Shin, a man from Hubei province, met a woman named Shaoyu through an advertisement for wedding planning services. They started talking online and soon formed a romantic connection. But things took a strange turn when Shaoyu asked for a large sum of money. She explained that it was a traditional “bride price” of Rs 22 lakh, along with additional money for gifts for her sister and medical expenses for her mother. Shin, though unsure, sent the money after being reassured by Shaoyu's constant messages and pictures.
Over the next year, Shin sent more than Rs 55 lakh to Shaoyu. After many months of online talks, the families agreed to meet. However, when Shin finally met the woman who claimed to be Shaoyu, he noticed that she looked different from the pictures he had received. She explained that the photos had been altered with a filter. Despite his doubts, Shin continued with the wedding plans and sent more money.
Shin's suspicions grew when he saw strange messages on Shaoyu’s phone. When he confronted her, she claimed her phone had been hacked. But things got worse when a woman, pretending to be Shaoyu’s sister, contacted Shin and said that the relationship should end. This made Shin investigate further.
What he found was shocking. The woman he had been speaking to all along was not Shaoyu, but a woman pretending to be her. After further investigation, Shin discovered that Shaoyu and her family were part of a large scam. Shaoyu was already married and had a child. She, along with a team of actors, had been tricking Shin into sending money for months.
Devastated, Shin reported the scam to the police. Authorities confirmed that Shaoyu and her accomplices were part of a criminal group that targeted people looking for love online.
