The 50th Annual Cake Show at Bengaluru’s Palace Grounds showcased some truly extraordinary tribute cakes that honoured two iconic figures—industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, and former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna.

One of the standout displays was a massive 250-kg edible tribute to Ratan Tata, created by the Institute of Baking and Cake Art (IBCA). The cake took 10 days to make and was led by cake artists Santanu, Mahesh, and Rahul. The centerpiece of the tribute was a life-like sugar bust of Tata, which was meticulously crafted to capture his likeness. Surrounding the bust was a sugar-crafted globe symbolizing Tata’s global impact, with airplanes placed around it to represent his role in reviving Tata Airlines. At the base of the sculpture, a fondant bookshelf displayed miniature books bearing the names of Tata Group companies, such as Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Titan. The fine details, such as hand-painted elements on the globe and the carefully shaped facial features on the bust, highlighted the immense skill and artistry involved in this creation.

In addition to Tata's tribute, IBCA also presented a 280-kg cake in honour of SM Krishna. This life-sized sugar sculpture depicted Krishna seated at a desk, reflecting his dignified persona. The desk was made from stacked cake layers that were carefully carved and covered with fondant to resemble wood. The desk was surrounded by work files, Krishna's signature accessories, and a small Indian flag, all crafted using gum paste and fondant. The cake served as a beautiful tribute to Krishna’s significant contributions to the development of Karnataka.

Both these remarkable creations not only celebrated the individuals they honoured but also showcased the extraordinary artistry and skill of the cake artists at IBCA.
