Saif Ali Khan stabbed: How Mumbai Police nabbed suspect in Chhattisgarh, 5 points

The Saif Ali Khan stabbing case has a major update, as the Mumbai Police in the early hours of Sunday arrested the main suspect. Mohammed Aalian, alias Vijay Das, a resident of West Bengal, was arrested in Thane.   

The day before, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a suspect at Chattisgarh's Durg railway station in connection with the case. The suspected, identified as 31-years-old Aakash Kailash Kannojia was travelling on the Jnaneshwari Express from Mumbai LTT to Kolkata Shalimar.   

This is how the Mumbai police caught the suspect from Chhattisgarh.  

1. The Mumbai Police cautioned the RPF Post Durg on Saturday afternoon about the suspect travelling on the train, along with the information of his mobile phone location and his photograph.  

2. Two teams at the RPF Durg station found the suspect in the train’s front general compartment and sent his photograph to Mumbai police which verified his identity. The Mumbai police then took off for Raipur to take the suspect’s custody. 

3. "A suspect Aakash Kanojia has been detained from Durg, Chhattisgarh. Information about this suspect was received from Assistant Police Inspector Juhu Police Station, Mumbai Police that a suspect is travelling by Jnaneswari Express train, and he shared the photo of the suspect. The suspect was brought to Durg RPF post and Mumbai Police officials were contacted through video call. A team of Mumbai Police will reach Raipur today to take charge of the suspect," said Munawar Khursheed, IG RPF SECR Zone, Bilaspur.   

4. "Actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked some days ago and the suspect has been caught from Durg by RPF. Mumbai Police are coming, and the suspect will be handed over to them," said Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai.   

5. Before the police nabbed the suspect, he was captured walking down a staircase in the actor’s building on CCTV footage. He again caught on CCTV footage buying earphones from a shop after the incident.  

Saif Ali Khan, 54, is a prominent actor in the Hindi film industry who sustained major stab wounds while the accused attempted a burglary at his residence on the 12th floor of a building constructed by Satguru Builders in Mumbai’s Bandra. After the attack, Saif was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Fortunately, the operation was successful, and the actor is now recovering.
