120 minute suspense-thriller based on girls' leaked private videos, film's unpredictable climax will leave you shocked

What makes South cinema so effective? The regional cinema has made the best of films on a limited budget. An unpredictable, nail-biting thriller is always loved by the audience. Today we will discuss a film that was made on a small budget, but it made a huge impact. 

Here’s one such film that explores themes of guilt, revenge and the devasting impact of privacy violations. We are talking about Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie's Puriyatha Puthir (2017). Directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, the Tamil psychological thriller showcases the repercussions of cybercrime and privacy invasion. 

Puriyatha Puthir follows Kathir (Vijay), an aspiring music director, who falls in love with Meera (Gayathrie), a music teacher. Their relationship takes a dark turn when Kathir receives explicit videos of Meera, which leads to a series of events that uncover hidden truths and past traumas.

Puriyatha Puthir was the second collab of Vijay Sethupathi and S Gayathrie. They were paired after the success of Naduvula Konjam Pakatha Kanom. Just like their previous film, their chemistry was impressive and well-received by the audience. Moreover, Sam CS, the music director of Vikram Vedha, scored the music for the film. 

The movie was released in cinemas on September 1, 2017, and director Ranjit Jeyakodi’s skills were appreciated for his attempt to convey a strong message. Vijay Sethupathi’s portrayal of Kathir and the music of Sam CS were particularly praised. The suspenseful plot and the 'shocking' twist in the climax will keep viewers engaged till the last shot.

Puriyatha Puthir was initially titled ‘Mellisai’ but was renamed Puriyatha Puthir in October 2016. However, the production faced several delays, with the film eventually released in 2017. You can enjoy Puriyatha Puthir yet on OTT. The movie is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video or Jio TV.
