Mumbai Indians made headlines during the IPL 2025 mega auction by investing heavily in young talent. Among their key signings was Afghanistan’s 18-year-old spinner, Allah Ghazanfar, who was bought for Rs 4.8 crore. His base price was just Rs 75 lakh, but Mumbai’s aggressive bid reflected their faith in his skills and potential.
Mumbai’s spin bowling department has been a concern in recent seasons. Alongside Ghazanfar, they also roped in experienced spinner Mitchell Santner, which could help them dominate with a balanced bowling lineup.
Ghazanfar has been turning heads with his performances on the international stage. In a recent ODI match against Zimbabwe, the young spinner showcased his talent, taking three wickets for just nine runs in 3.5 overs. His bowling was crucial in Afghanistan’s victory as he demonstrated his ability to handle pressure in key moments.
Interestingly, Ghazanfar started his career as a fast bowler before transitioning into a spinner under the guidance of former Afghan captain Dawlat Ahmadzai. The change has been a game-changer for him, evident from his performances in the 2024 U-19 World Cup, where he picked up eight wickets in four matches.
Last season, Ghazanfar was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad, which went on to win the IPL title.
