Bumrah sealed the deal by taking Usman Khawaja's wicket on the last ball and then gave an icy stare to 19-year-old Australian Sam Konstas.
Jasprit Bumrah provided a thrilling conclusion to Day 1 in Sydney by claiming Usman Khawaja's wicket with the final ball, followed by an intense stare-down of Australian debutant Sam Konstas. Prior to this, there was a heated exchange earlier in the over that required umpire intervention. Bumrah ultimately had the last word with a delivery that found Khawaja's edge, resulting in a catch by KL Rahul at second slip. The Indian team erupted in celebration as Bumrah locked eyes with Konstas in a moment filled with intensity.
The tension arose when Khawaja took his time to face the delivery causing a delay that frustrated Bumrah who was keen to finish the over before stumps. This strategic delay not only deprived India of an additional over but also further irked Bumrah. Konstas, at the non-striker's end seemed to support the delay knowing it would likely be the final over of the day.
Despite dismissing Khawaja with a delivery that led to a catch by KL Rahul, Bumrah's animated celebrations were aimed at Konstas, escalating the confrontation. The situation became so heated that the umpires had to intervene to calm things down. Khawaja, known for his friendly relations with Indian players remained unaffected by the altercation.

As the Indian fielders cheered Khawaja's dismissal Bumrah turned his focus back to Konstas delivering a chilling stare instead of a celebratory gesture. Even Virat Kohli and the Indian team joined in celebrating the wicket in front of Konstas, heightening the tension further. Despite the commotion, the unflappable Australian opener walked off amidst the cheers and roars of the Indian team.
Earlier, India made the surprising decision to drop skipper Rohit Sharma but unfortunately their batting struggles persisted as they were dismissed for a mere 185 runs on the first day of the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday. The talented paceman Scott Boland shone with impressive figures of 4 for 31 showcasing Australia's dominance in the seam-friendly conditions. Their bowlers effectively contained India's scoring and consistently took wicket, much to the delight of the packed crowd of 48,000 spectators.
Despite the disappointing performance the only silver lining for India was the anticipation of Jasprit Bumrah the standout bowler of the series and Rohit's replacement as captain making an impact on the same pitch. Bumrah demonstrated his skill by dismissing Usman Khawaja for just two runs with the final delivery of the three overs that India managed to bowl before the end of the day's play.
As the day concluded teenager Sam Konstas with an unbeaten score of seven, guided Australia to a total of 9 for 1. With Australia leading the series 2-1 they are now just one victory away from reclaiming the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy and securing a spot in the World Test Championship final against South Africa.
