CRICKET
Ravindra Jadeja met with reporters before the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, but he apparently dodged English questions, which left Australian media confused.
The Indian cricket team has once again found itself embroiled in controversy, this time due to biased reporting by the Australian media against the team and its media manager. The incident occurred at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) following Ravindra Jadeja's press conference, which was originally intended for Indian journalists.
The controversy stemmed from a previous incident when the Indian team arrived in Melbourne from Brisbane. At the airport, Virat Kohli had a confrontation with a Channel 7 reporter who attempted to film his family, including his child. Kohli objected to this invasion of privacy, requesting that personal moments not be recorded. This incident seemed to have incensed the Australian media leading to their subsequent actions.
Following India's practice session at the MCG, a press conference featuring Ravindra Jadeja was held. The event organized by the BCCI was specifically for Indian journalists covering the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, Cricket Australia's media team invited Australian journalists without prior coordination.
During the press conference, Jadeja fielded questions from Indian reporters, many of whom asked in Hindi. Unfortunately, due to time constraints no Australian journalists were able to ask questions.
Tensions rose after the conference when an Australian journalist confronted Indian media manager Moulin Parikh, questioning why no questions in English were taken. Parikh attempted to explain but the situation turned hostile when Australian camerapersons began recording the interaction without consent. Despite Parikh's objections, additional cameras were brought in to capture the conversation.
In a display of unity, Indian journalists intervened, blocking the cameras and asserting that the discussion was private and not intended for public dissemination.
Instead of objectively reporting the facts, the Australian media chose to sensationalize the incident by linking it to a previous confrontation with Virat Kohli. Biased stories were published accusing the Indian team of being uncooperative and unfair during press interactions. This narrative crafted by the Australian press failed to acknowledge the reality that many Indian journalists were also unable to ask questions due to time constraints.
Additionally, reports inaccurately claimed that only Hindi questions were permitted despite the fact that Jadeja was fully capable of answering in English.
