Bank Holiday January 2025: Are banks open or closed on January 6 in THIS state?

Banks in Chandigarh will be closed on Monday, January 6, in celebration of Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s Birthday. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stated that bank closures will be in accordance with regional and national holidays based on each state's observance.

Additionally, banks across the country are closed on all Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. They remain open on the first and third Saturdays.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will be closed for a total of 13 days in January due to national and regional festivals, which includes the second and fourth Saturdays as well as Sundays.

All bank holidays are listed in the annual holiday calendar published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in accordance with the Negotiable Instruments Act. This Act governs the issuance of cheques and promissory notes. Transactions involving these financial instruments will not be processed during the specified holidays.

On designated holidays, while physical bank branches may be closed, online banking services will remain accessible throughout the day. Customers planning to visit bank branches should make arrangements in advance, although they can still use ATMs for cash withdrawals during these holidays.
