43 years ago, in 1981, a Bollywood film was released in theatres in which 4 superstars, Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha, worked together and took the box office by storm. The name of that film was 'Kranti'. As per reports, after the release of 'Kranti', it became so popular that it ran in theatres for 67 weeks and was houseful for 96 days. The audience showered all their love on this film.
Let us tell you, in the 80s, veteran actors like Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha had a distinct identity in the industry and when these four superstars appeared together in 'Kranti', people couldn't believe their eyes. 'Kranti' became the highest-grossing film of the year 1981.
The film 'Kranti', released in theatres on February 6, 1981, and was a historical drama film, produced and directed by Manoj Kumar himself. Its story and screenplay were written by Salim-Javed and the film, apart from Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha, also starred Hema Malini and Parveen Babi in lead roles.
This film received immense love from the audience and within no time, it was a hit in cinemas across the country. This film proved to be a blockbuster at the box office. The makers spent approximately Rs 3.1 crore to make 'Kranti' and it earned a total of Rs 16 crore at the worldwide box office.
Through this film, Dilip Kumar made a comeback on the big screen after 4 years. It was one of the most expensive Indian films of that time. Not only this, 'Kranti' is considered one of the biggest patriotic hits ever seen in India.
At the time of its release, it was the second highest-grossing Indian film after 'Sholay' (1975). It also outperformed Amitabh Bachchan's 'Naseeb' and 'Laawaris' in 1981 and Dharmendra's film 'Katilon Ke Kaatil'.
