Stree 2 box office: Rajkummar, Shraddha Kapoor-starrer beats Kalki 2898 AD, Fighter; set for biggest opening of 2024

The much-awaited horror comedy Stree 2 is hitting the big screen on Independence Day, August 15. The hype for the sequel has been sky high and the advance booking numbers are proof of that. Even though Stree 2 is releasing alongside two other films – Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa – it is a clear winner as far as the audience’s choice is concerned. As things stand, Stree 2 is guaranteed to clear the biggest openers of the year in its first weekend.

Stree 2 day 1 advance booking

Stree 2, directed by Amar Kaushik, stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. A sequel to the 2018 sleeper hit Stree and part of the Maddock Universe, the film has been the most awaited Bollywood film of the year. Sacnilk reports that Stree 2 has sold tickets worth Rs 14.58 crore for its opening day, the highest among all Hindi films of the year. In comparison, Fighter had advance booking of Rs 8 crore while the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD earned just under Rs 9 crore. By this metric, Stree 2 is head and shoulders ahead of all competition. The two other films releasing on August 15 – Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein – are languishing way behind at under Rs 1 crore by 6pm on Wednesday.

Stree 2 box office prediction

Given the advance booking and the fact that it is getting a festive day release (Independence Day), Stree 2 stands to register the highest opening by any Bollywood film this year. Trade pundits have predicted the film to cross Rs 30 crore net for opening day. This is higher than the Rs 22 crore that Fighter and Kalki 2898 AD (Hindi version only) collected. Trade sources say that Stree 2 could earn in the range of Rs 45-50 crore gross worldwide on Thursday if the word of mouth builds. This will set it on course to challenge Fighter as the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. But for that, the most important thing will be how the reviews fare and whether the word of mouth is positive.
