Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's marriage took place on October 25, 1991, in a traditional Hindu ceremony. Recently, some photos of the power couple in Mecca went viral with the claims that the Pathaan star had made her wife convert to Islam after 33 years of their marriage. These pictures were AI-generated and completely fake.
However, there was an incident once when Shah Rukh jokingly asked Gauri to wear burqa and read namaaz to frighten her family. Recalling the same, Shah Rukh told Farida Jalal in an old interview, "On our reception day, they (Gauri's family) were all talking in Punjabi. So, I looked at them and said, 'Gauri, put on your burqa, and let's read the namaaz now.’ The whole family stared at us, wondering if I had changed her religion. So I told them, 'From now on, she will wear a burqa all the time, she won’t ever leave the house, and her name will be changed to Ayesha Khan.'" The superstar then added that Gauri's entire family was shocked and furious hearing him and realising that the situation might go out of hand, he quicky told them that he was just joking.
Even before their wedding, the couple had decided that Gauri would not convert to Islam. In the first season of Koffee With Karan, she had spoken about the same and stated, "There is a balance. I respect Shah Rukh’s religion, but that doesn’t mean I would convert. I believe everyone should follow their own faith, and there should be mutual respect. Shah Rukh would never disrespect my religion either. During Diwali, I lead the pooja, and the family follows. On Eid, Shah Rukh leads, and we follow. It’s a beautiful arrangement, and the kids embrace both traditions. In fact, they tend to lean more toward what Shah Rukh says. Both Diwali and Eid are fantastic for them."
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan share three children - their son Aryan Khan and daughter Suhana Khan were born in 1997 and 2000. In 2013, they welcomed their second son AbRam Khan, who was born through a surrogate mother.
