Rashmika Mandanna exudes royalty in her first look as Maharani Yesubai in Chhaava

The makers of Chhaava have released the highly anticipated look of Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai Bhonsale, wife of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This comes shortly after unveiling Vicky Kaushal's character as the Maratha king. While some fans praised Mandanna's traditional Maharashtrian look, others were divided, suggesting that a Marathi actress would have been a more suitable choice for the role.

In the first look poster, Rashmika wears a stunning Maharashtrian Nauvari saree, complete with traditional jewellery, including a nose ring and a bold red bindi. The poster exudes her strength and elegance, hinting at the significant impact her character will have in the upcoming period drama. 

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava explores the fascinating history of the Maratha Empire, highlighting a pivotal chapter where Chhatrapati Sambhaji shared power with his wife, Empress Yesubai Bhonsale. During Sambhaji's absences from the Maratha capital due to battles, Yesubai took charge, making key political decisions that shaped the empire. 

Sharing the poster on her Instagram handle, Rashmika wrote, "Behind every great king, there stands a queen of unmatched strength. Introducing @rashmika_mandanna as Maharani Yesubai - the pride of Swarajya. #ChhaavaTrailer Out Tomorrow! Releasing in cinemas on 14th February 2025."' A user wrote, “Everything else is fine looks like a perfect movie to watch but why this heroine. There are so many who could do this better seeing the heroine m out watching this in theatre.“ A second user remarked, “Marathi actresses are way better to consider for a Marathi role...why a South actress?”, another user added, “Murnal Thakur better option thi.”  “Why can’t they take people who’ve grown up speaking Marathi in these kinds of roles,” commented another person.

However, a fan defended Rashmika by commenting, “Those who make bad comments, please think and comment, you are commenting on the character of Maharani Yesubai of Hindavi Swarajya, know that this role is very important in history.” Another fan said, “Actually it’s a proud moment for Maharashtrian that South Indian people also performing a Marathi role.” “Jo log bol rahe ho ki maharani Yesubai mein better koi mil sakti thi to please ap sab log rashu ki chandra dance ko dekhiye wo pura episode dekhiye. Apko v achha lagega . Movie dekhne se pahle hate maat kariye please,” said another fan. 

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated trailer of Chhaava is set to release on January 22, 2025. The film hits theatres on February 14, 2025, making it a Valentine's Day treat.
