Actors struggle to chase an opportunity in Bollywood and for some, it falls right on the lap. It happened with most models in the past when they got lead roles in the movie after their advertisements. This model became an overnight sensation with her debut alongside Ranbir Kapoor and we are talking about none other than Nargis Fakhri.
Born to multi-cultural parents in Queens, New York City, Nargis embarked on her acting career in Bollywood after she received a call from Imtiaz Ali. Her big break came when Imtiaz discovered her through a commercial she had appeared in. She was living in Copenhagen, Denmark when she received an email from the director that changed her life. Imtiaz had seen her in a jewellery campaign advertisement, at the time she was working as a model in Greece and had no idea where the ad would be featured.
Nargis's chance discovery led to her starring alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar, which became a massive hit and catapulted her to overnight stardom. Thereafter, she went on to deliver notable performances in Madras Cafe (2013) and Main Tera Hero (2014). Nargis then transitioned to Hollywood, making her debut in Paul Feig's Spy (2015), starring alongside prominent actors Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, and Jude Law. In 2016 alone, she starred in five films, ranging from commercial hits like Azhar and Housefull 3 to the indie film Banjo. However, despite her prolific career, Nargis soon felt burnt out. She decided to take a break and return to her family in the US, citing mental health reasons for the sabbatical.
In her personal life, Nargis was previously in a long-term relationship with Uday Chopra, son of veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra. The couple dated from 2013 to 2017 before eventually parting ways. The breakup was reportedly amicable, with both Nargis and Uday choosing to focus on their respective careers.
After years of gap, Nargis returned to work with Shiv Shastri Balboa along with Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Jugal Hansraj. She filmed for the Telugu film Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which stars Pawan Kalyan in the lead, which marks her first film in the language. In Hindi films, she is all set to appear in Akshay Kumar starrer Housefull 5 alongside an ensemble cast including Jacqueliene Fernandez and Sonam Bajwa.
