Baby John Vs Pushpa 2 box office: Varun Dhawan-starrer struggles to hold ground against Allu Arjun’s film

Varun Dhawan’s Baby John had an impressive start at the box office with a strong opening collection. However, the collection faced a sharp decline on the second day and failed to hold ground against Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which continues its dream run at the box office. 

Released on December 25, 2024, Baby John garnered significant footfall considering the holiday that often brings a good number of viewers. The Atlee’s production venture raked in Rs 11.25 crore India net according to industry tracker Sacnilk. On Day 2, the movie could not pull as much footfall as expected, registered around Rs 4.50 crore in India net earnings as per early estimates. The film had an overall occupancy of 11.09% on Thursday. The total collection now stands at Rs 15.75 crore approximately. 

Directed by Kalees, the film, however, earned Varun his best opening numbers in the last five years. The film, also starring Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh and Jackie Shroff, faced tough competition from Pushpa 2, the sequel to Allu Arjun’s blockbuster hit, Pushpa: The Rise. Released on December 5, the film continued to have a strong hold even after weeks in theatres. The film earned more than Baby John on its 22nd day at the box office. It raked in around Rs 9.60 crore against Rs 4.50 crore collection of two-day-old Varun’s film, a scene-by-scene remake of the Tamil movie Theri.

Pushpa 2’s total domestic collection is currently Rs 1119.2 Cr as per Sacnilk, of which Rs 318.12 Cr contributed by Telugu, Rs 723.9 Cr by Hindi, Rs 55.6 Cr by Tamil, Rs 7.5 Cr by Kannada and Rs14.08 Cr by Malayalam language. Directed by Sukumar and backed by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, the film also features  Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu and Sritej in pivotal roles.
