Kawasaki's introduction of off-road motorcycles in India isn't new, as the brand has offered dual-sport bikes for some time. However, these models weren't road-legal, leaving enthusiasts wanting more. To address this, Kawasaki has launched the KLX230 – its first road-legal dual-sport motorcycle in India – priced at Rs 3.3 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the KLX230 capable of both urban commuting and off-road adventures.

The KLX230 features a slim, rugged design built for challenging terrains. Its styling aligns with other KLX models, boasting hexagonal headlights encased in a plastic cowl, a narrow 7.6-litre fuel tank, and a single-piece seat. The bike comes in two colours: Lime Green and Battle Grey.  

Constructed with a high-tensile steel perimeter frame, the KLX230 is equipped with 37 mm telescopic forks at the front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by a 265 mm front disc with twin-piston calipers and a 220 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper. 

The bike is powered by a 233 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that generates 18.1 hp at 8,000 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox delivers power to the wheels, and with a curb weight of 139 kg, the KLX230 is well-suited for off-road performance.  

In the Indian market, the Kawasaki KLX230 competes with models like the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and Xpulse 200 4V Pro, which are priced significantly lower at ₹1.51 lakh and ₹1.64 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Despite its higher price point, the KLX230 offers a robust package for dual-sport enthusiasts seeking a reliable and versatile motorcycle. It is Kawasaki’s third locally produced motorcycle in India, following the Ninja 300 and W175.
